Description

This oral history describes an interview between The Other Football members and Jaime Ramirez about his life in Fresno as a soccer player and coach. Through the first part of the interview, Ramirez discusses his time building the women's soccer team at Fresno Pacific. He mentions a particular player, Michelle Cummings, who wanted to play soccer and persisted to fight for a place to play. Through the interview, Ramirez reveals how he became the head coach and how he got them sanctioned, especially since he was already coaching the men's soccer team. They discuss the success of the women's soccer team and how it proved itself to be competitive, and how Ramirez also stepped down from coaching the team. In the second part of the interview, they go into detail about Ramirez's career as a soccer player in Mexico and also in the San Joaquin area. Ramirez also played at the international level of soccer and describes how he became a teacher to support his family. Later on, he goes back to play once again and then becomes the head coach for the FPU men's soccer team, bringing back his career full circle.
