Description
In this oral history, Jose "Chato" Elgorriaga Jr., shares the story of playing under his father, the renown and celebrated Fresno State Men's Soccer coach, from early youth leagues to becoming his assistant coach after college. Chato then depicts his experiences working for Univision during the World Cup 1986 in Mexico where he interviewed the likes of Pele. Along with his experiences, he covers the history of his father's migration, the Basque sheepherding job he had while studying in Fresno State, how his father's politics and philosophy influenced his approach to coaching, and his father's success as a pelota player. Lastly he touches briefly on his mother's side of the family and her work as an academic as well.
